Clarrie Cameron (Bilangga)

BORN: Wiluna, Western Australia
LANGUAGE GROUP: Wilinyu and Tjurpan
REGION: Midwest and Western Desert Region of West Australia

Clarrie was born in Wiluna Community under a wooden humpy covered with spinifex, which is where he got his bush name “Bilangga” meaning ‘born in Spinifex’. Clarrie’s father is from Champion Bay region, from the Nha Nhagardi Tribe, and his mother is from Wiluna Community and is from the Wanmalla tribe. Clarrie has lived in the Midwest Region all his life and has been travelling around from Geraldton to Wiluna over the years.

Clarrie is very involved in the community, sharing his extensive knowledge of local Indigenous language, culture and art with local agencies and the wider community. Clarrie has run workshops with children such as didgeridoo making, painting and story telling.

Clarrie now lives in Sandstone and continues to paint through Yamaji Art.
