In Noongar Culture, Birak is the ‘first’ summer, December-January, when it becomes quite warm.
During this season it is also time for the ‘Moodjar’ tree to start flowering. They are also known as the christmas tree.
In noongar culture it is believed that the spirits of our old people live in the trees. We are prohibited from sitting under the the tree and most definitely are not allowed to break the branches of the tree.
